Kawandi

The last months I've been practicing kawandi. It would be great to take a class, but most of all it needs experience. I've watched some youtube videos, and studied pictures. I'm still learning, and it's so calming and fun.

Last week I had a class for some friends, so they shouldn't have to do all the mistakes I've been through. We had a nice evening, and all of us started a book cover. 

When I had finished my piece, it was a bit too big for the book I had bought. So I made it into a little pouch instead. When I found a sweet owl and a matching button to put on, it ended up just perfect.

Kawandi with a secret

It's been a while since I made an art quilt page for Art Journal Journey. This month the theme is "anything goes", so I hope this will do. I made a page with a little kawandi. This little piece hides a card of a beautiful quilt made of a talented quilter in Bergen. This is the last page in my new little art journal.

Project Quilting 14-6

 The last challenge this year from Persimon Dreams is taking place this week. I was afraid that I couldn't take part in this challenge, as I'm away from home and without a sewing machine. I was laughing when I saw the challenge, conquer a fear. And that I've done.

So I took my small pink pieces of fabric I had with me and made a little kawandi quilt while sitting on the bus and the ferry for a whole day. Kawandi beats the fear, so this is it.

 I've seen so many beautiful kawandi quilts, and have tried it out earlier this year. Now was the time to try again, and I made another little needle case. So relaxing work, and I recommend that you make a try if you haven't done yet.

S.N.O.W. day

 On the blog GoNe StiTcHin' today is a fun blog post. If you like to do something new, use a new tool or technique, you can find a tutorial in her posts Something New On Wednesday, S N O W.

As I'm always looking for something new, that's perfect for me. I will also try to show you some of the new things I try on Wednesdays. I've read a lot about a technique originally from India called kawandi. It's a hand stitched quilt made from scraps. You can find a YouTube tutorial here. Now I've tried it, and it's really addicting. For a try I made this little piece, and transformed it into a needle book. Isn't it sweet?
