Mini La Passion - a finish

At last, after about 10 years, it's finished. All hand pieced and hand quilted. And as this is my second La Passion, it won't be another. It's been so fun through all the 17 300 hexies. This last one has a size that I can handle and that I can hang up on my wall. But first it will be sent to an exhibition in Oslo next month. Size: 131 cm x 135 cm.

Here is a picture of the back side so that you can see the quilting, and some close up pictures to show the edge and how I did that.

If you like to read more about this project you can look here. And my first La Passion you can read about here.

Hand quilting

I've started hand quilting my mini La Passion at last. I chose Hobbs Tuscany Cotton Wool Blend inside, and a white backside. It's working perfectly, and I'm having a nice hour every day with my hexagon quilt and the needle. It's almost impossible to see the pattern on the front, but I hope you can see it on the back side of the quilt.

Mini La Passion - top finished

At last I can present for you the finished top for my quarter inch La Passion. I've worked with it for years, and by now there's about 16 800 hexies. I will need more than 500 for the binding too. Now I will start hand quilting it, and plan to get it all finished in about a year.

Mini La Passion January Report

Hopefully the next report will be of a finished top for this mini La Passion. There are about 400 hexies more to make for the front, and I plan to show you all in March. I also have to make more than 500 for the binding, but first I will hand quilt it.

As you can see I've already started the first of 8 flowers left to make. Pattern by Grit Kovacs, and if you click the link you can see many different versions.

Mini La Passion November Report

We're at the end of November already, and I'm a bit back on this project. But I have done some big flowers, and now you can see how it will be in the end. The hexagons are 1/4", and there will be 17 300 when finished. Pattern by Grit Kovacs.

I also have to show you how beautiful the days are here just now. Enjoy the last photo.

Mini La Passion October report

Almost four months since last update, and I've done my ten hexies every day. Now there's less than thousand hexies left for the top. Then I have a round of about five hundred going on the backside to close the edges. So after Christmas I think I can start hand quilting this one.

Mini La Passion August report

We're finishing August today, and it must be the perfect time to report my mini. I don't know how many hexies I've joined the last two months, but all the small red flowers are there. And now I have 28 bigger flowers left, 7 in each corner. I have already made one of them, as you can see. Here you can see how it looked like in June. The hexies are 1/4", and the pattern is by Grit Kovacs.

Mini La Passion April report

Here you can see that I've been doing quite a bit of hexie sewing this month. You can get an idea of how the corners will look like. But there are still many thousands of hexies left to sew. And I can remind you that the hexagons are just 1/4".  Pattern by Grit Kovacs, originally made with 1/2" hexies.

Mini La Passion in February

Four months and more than a thousand quarter inch hexies since I last showed you my mini La Passion. I've now closed all the diamond windows, and I'm ready for the small flowers in the corners.  The last picture shows you the size of the hexagons. Pattern by Grit's Life.

Mini La Passion in November

Now I've closed 4 more windows, and started one of the four remaining ones. I've also started to baste and box background hexies. Not bad to have made more than 500 small 1/4" hexies all together this month. Now I hope to make the four last diamonds the next month. Next year I have to start the corners. So still another year in the making, at least.

Mini La Passion in October

Not winter yet, but I've started to close my windows at least. There are 121 hexies in each window, and I've made four of them. Don't know if I can have them all closed this year, but I try.

I've had questions about those windows, and why I do it like that. Even if the hexies are just 1/4", the main work is starting to be so heavy and big that it's difficult to take with me everywhere. Some of the shapes, diamonds or hexagons, are easy to make and put in after I return to home. It's all going in a small pouch suitable for taking along wherever I go.

People always like to see the back side, and here I've taken some photoes to show you. Not easy to see the difference between the back and front, can you? I'm basting the hexies in the corners, so I can just whip out the papers, and don't have to remove the basting thread. The edges stay flat and crisp that way.

This pattern is by Grit's Life. Enjoy the gallery showing many beautiful versions of this quilt.
