I made this pattern myself, and I've got great response from many quilters around. Here is a short tutorial if you like to give it a try. I've used English paper piecing, that is all hand sewn, half hexagons, size of your own choice.
I've used different black, blue and green fabrics, and got a chevron border with black in the middle. I found that if I changed the colours a bit, it would be like butterflies. I've done that in my next work. Can see the butterflies?
I let the pictures speek for themselves. You may study them, and ask me if you don't understand.
I join the blocks into rows, and then I sew the rows together the way you can see in this pictures.
You have to adjust the ends. But you may make a solid block so that you don't have to cut the butterflies.
Hope this can inspire you to try. I would be happy to know if you did.
Interesting design (and great fabric choice) made only with half hexagons; I thought that triangles are involved too; thank you for the tutorial and inspiration.

ReplyDeleteJag gillar dina "halva" hexis.

ReplyDeleteCan't wait for Santa to bring my purple and lime fabrics so I can get started on this!!
ReplyDeleteThe butterfly arrangement is so clever! Do you have to bend the papers to get some of the sides lined up right? dezertsuz at gmail

ReplyDeletethank you for this tutorial on your "Butterfly" hexagon design. I really love it and may have to begin (oh no not another one lol) one for myself. I have only done whole hexagons before now (my Monet's city" was strip pieced before cutting. I am going to baste some more right now...I just love these two quilts of yours...hugs, Julierose
