When Bea asked me if I had old quilt books, I had to admit I have plenty. So fun to be challenged to make something from one of them. And I can recommend looking through your own old quilt books. So many fun ideas to get from them.
Today is the first day of the blog hop, and it's my day. My choice is a book from a Norwegian quilter, Grete Gulliksen Moe. It's actually an art book showing many of her brightest quilts, with no precise patterns. But I had seen a beautiful place mat there, and wanted to make two for ourselves. So I just sketched up a pattern and started out really scrappy. I was so happy with the result, and now we have place mats at home, at last.
It's possible to use as a runner too. |
There's a GIVEAWAY too, and as usual, I'll give away a pincushion, and I'll throw in a roll of beautiful batik fabrics from Island Batik. Just comment and tell me if you have a favorite colour. For me it varies, and just now it's blue, as you might have understood. I'll draw a winner on Saturday.
Winner: Carla. Sent February 27th.

I love the idea to dust off old books, and your placemats are beautiful! I love blue too (seems like my stash is full of blue), but sometimes I prefer yellow ;)
ReplyDeleteLooking at my stash it becomes obvious that I love blue! So many shades and moods in blue. Green is a close second as it reminds me of being outdoors with all those slight variations in the colour. Thanks for sharing. Janice.snell@gmail.com
ReplyDeleteWow, what beautiful placemats! My favorite color varies as well, glad I'm not the only one! Blue, green, orange, yellow or some variation of one of those may be my favorite at any given moment. Lately I am drawn to aqua and turquoise shades.
ReplyDeleteVery striking blue placemats. I like red but blue is a close second color choice. Thanks for the giveaway opportunity.
ReplyDeleteAt first I thought oh, who wants to go back that old stuff. But look what a great inspiration you found! So I have to back pedal and retract that frame of mind. LOL. Your placemats/table runner look fabulous!
ReplyDeleteLove the placements! My favourite colour is green.
ReplyDeleteCute placemats!
ReplyDeleteI never thought I had a favorite color but when cleaning out my sewing room and re-organizing my sewing room I found I have more blue fabric than any other in my sewing room - so I guess blue it is. Love your placements so pretty!
ReplyDeleteMy favorite color is actually that blue in the fabric roll you have in your give away. I call it Caribbean blue.
ReplyDeleteYour placemats are wonderful! Right now my favorite color is blue/teal!
ReplyDeleteYour placemats/tablerunner option are wonderful. Looking at my stash it appears that my favorite color(s) are black/white and gray. I would have said Red. hmmmmmmmmmmm
ReplyDeleteVery nice that you were able to use a coffee table book as your inspiration. I have a couple of those myself that I save just for inspiration! I think right now my favorite color is orange even though I've yet to use much of it in a quilt. Only one quilt called Sweet Potato Pie :)
ReplyDeleteHi Turid, Lovely place mats and the piecing is perfect. I've been gravitating towards blue and teals lately but my favorite color is Periwinkle.
ReplyDeletethank you for the wonderful post. i love your projects, especially your place mats. thank you for sharing. my favorite color is purple. but blue comes in at a close second.
