Scrappy star - a tutorial

After making this runner, I have been challenged to show how I made my scrappy stars. So here we go.

This is how it's going to be.

Start with eight 3 1/4" squares from a neutral fabric.
Put four away and make the star points on the other four.
Find some different scraps minimum 3# squares. Cut them to triangles like this.
Sew the triangle to the white square. The pin marks the middle, and the lower part of the triangle should be to the left of the pin. The star point have to be under the corner somewhere. Make some differences for the four parts to make them wonky.
Fingerpress the first triangle, and sew on the other. Remember to cross the two at least 1/2" from the bottom of the white square. Don't cut the white away, that will be your guide for squaring it up.
Sew all the four parts like this, iron them and square them up.
Find all the white squares and place the star points as you find it the best. Now on to the middle.
I make each square by sewing together small scraps and orphan HTS blocks. Square them up to 3 1/4".
Then the fun starts. Should I choose this one?
Or is this one better? I always make lots to choose from.
I ended up with this one as the perfect middle for these star points.
Sew them into rows, and then again each row together.
Finished! Now you can just square it up to 8 1/4". Good luck trying your own stars!
